Lost (Update)

Filed under: Uncategorized — ruth @ 1:55 pm

A phone ringing at 2 in the morning is usually assumed to be a harbinger of bad news. This morning (18/2/08) when we received a call at that time, it was not bad news but what we heard was certainly music to the ears. BIBI has been found by her owner at the basement carpark of the condo under a car. Except for some bruises, he seemed ok. Anyway, he’ll be going to the vet shortly to check for internal injuries.

Bibi is very special to us because he is the one and only cat that we felt extremely comfortable, without misgivings about the owner,  gave out for adoption.

We believe that the owner will have learnt a very valuable lesson and be more careful with open windows and balconies.

We’re extremely happy for the owner because we know that she had suffered a lot, with plenty of tears and no sleep and peace of mind, in the 24 hours that Bibi was missing. This is the type of owner we want - love the animal like as if it’s her own child. After all, how many (I believe there are some) who will spend the night and wee hours of the morning roaming to look for a cat.

LOST

This cat which answers to the name Bibi is missing from Evergreen Condo in Bandar Sg Long at midnight 18/7/2008. The owner forgot to secure one of the room windows and he is suspected to have left through that. It’s quite a high jump from the window to the ground and there is no ledge. How he achieved that jump is anyone’s imagination.

Anyway, the owner is desperate. She loved Bibi very much and she has just got back from Labuan after a separation of 2 months. Is he hurt or has someone picked him up? He’s a very handsome cat. He was adopted from us and we are desperate too. We hope that whoever has got him will return him. The contact person is Lih Ching/Amy; tel. no. 016-8172727 / 012-2080219. REWARD WILL BE GIVEN. NO QUESTIONS ASKED. ALL WE WANT IS THE CAT BACK.

Left in the cold

These 3 cute little kittens were born in a stationery shop near our place. Their mother likes to go to this shop to give birth, most probably because there are lots of boxes in their storeroom. We told the worker that if he saw the kittens to let us know and we would take them, as we knew (from past experiences) that they don’t have the heart nor the kindness towards animals.

Instead of showing that they do have a little goodness in them, they prefer to demonstrate their heartlessness by turfing them out to the backlane near a big drain. This being the rainy season, it was fortunate that we were told about it by a mamak stall worker and we managed to rescue them in time before they fell in. The sight of them trying to claw their way back into the shop will pull at any normal human being’s heartstring, but obviously we know for certain now more people whose heart are as good as dead. It will be a wonder if their children can grow up normal and decent.

Fling

This poor kitten, which we nicknamed Fling, was brought in to us nearing midnight on 19 June 2008 by a kind young man Mun Yi Quan. According to him, he and his friends were playing basketball when suddenly this kitten was flung over the fence and landed on the court. The poor fella was so shocked and stunned that he couldn’t move. Mun didn’t know where to go and he remembered us. Of course, we couldn’t turn it away although we are already too taxed, with space and financial constraints, to take in anymore stray animals. Mun contributed some money towards its upkeep.

We hope that Fling can survive. We’re monitoring to see whether there are signs of internal injuries. So far, so good. He’s eating well, except for the hare lip which will most likely mar its handsome face.

Damn the ‘human beast’ who could do such a thing. We hope the same will happen to him or his loved ones.

Imagine you are a ball, with feelings, being kicked around by people. Some workers from the coffee shop near our shop kicked this poor small fella out and she came rolling right in front of Amy Ng, who luckily did not step on it, as she was just passing by at that moment.

I wonder, what hope is there for the future if we have people who are capable of this ‘kind’ act and get their thrill from causing hurt to small creatures. Is it surprising that we read in the papers of atrocities being done to our children. A very sad world indeed.

A dedication from Tiny Tina to brother Tiny Tim

This poem is dedicated to my beloved brother Tiny Tim who is no more in this world. This was written after my first cat show. My guardian delayed posting it because each time she reads the poem, she will shed buckets thinking of him. Now she has no choice but to post it because I’m starting on my second dedication to Tiny Tim.

Crying 2

I’m Tina, lavender, white and cream

23rd and 24th of November was like a dream

I had to compete against so many teams

My chances of winning were so very slim.

Shadow, Oro, Megheara, to name a few

They were veterans, I am so new

To be the first, I somehow knew

I had to play and purr, that was my cue.

I wish, my brother Tiny Tim was here

We were so close, he was a dear

I would give anything to have him here

To see me win, to hear him cheer.

The next competition will be even more exciting

A few of my friends will be participating

To show that “kucing biasa juga boleh bertanding”

And may even get 1st placing

A breath of fresh air!

These 2 wonderful children are Amanda and Johnathan Moore from Australia. One day they walked into our shop with their mum; they were on their way to catch a flight back to Melbourne. Their mum said that they came to make a donation for the six puppies (my blog) which they saw abandoned outside our shop. It was indeed a wonderful and pleasant surprise. We certainly did not expect this.

This little thoughtful act of kindness was like a breath of fresh air to me. I’ve been ranting and raving at the irresponsibility of people who can just dump animals at people’s doorstep just like that. It’s not so much the money, but to know that there are people from across the miles, who actually have the heart and love and compassion for animals and be thoughtful enough to do their bit, is very heartwarming and and gives me renewed vigor to carry on with rescue work.

I did not have the good fortune to make their acquaintance this time but I do hope to rectify that when they next come back to Malaysia (their mum is from Sungai Long).

How I wish that there are more people like Amanda and Johnathon.

 Thank You

A friend in need………..

Sigh! Sigh! This is also overdue.

I’ve been so busy always, especially the last few months, that I feel I haven’t done justice to certain people. One of them is the young lady you see here. I’m sure she strikes a familiar figure to those who have been accessing this website. Yes, yes, it’s Lih Ching. Her credentials include being godmother to Tiny Tina, our two-time champion at the last couple of cat shows. The children with her are not hers, but they adore her.

Lih Ching has proven to be a true friend in every sense of the word. When she saw how extremely busy we were with a number of sick cats and stray kittens in December, she and Philip offered to look after two kittens (stray, of course) for us. She carted them to her house. She wanted to pay for their upkeep (food, cat litter, etc.) as well but we couldn’t allow her to do that. So, she slyly put ‘donations’ in our money box for stray animals.

Many times, she came to man the pet shop for us when we were short-staffed. She is still helping out. We offered to pay her, but she declined. She even went to the extent (which no one has done before, except paid maids) of cleaning up the cats’ (we mean cats, yes, many, many cats) poo-poo. She did not complain about smells nor it being dirty. Indeed, she did a more thorough job than we could ever have done. She certainly did it better than the dumb paid maids we used to have. All this for the love of the cats. She even spend time to ’sayang’ some of the cats. Whenever she comes to the shop, she’ll just do whatever she sees need to be done.

Aside from this, she helped out at cat shows. At the last cat show, when we couldn’t pick her up because she overslept (can’t blame her, we were all fagged out), she took a taxi there. We actually told her not to do that, but she did it because she said that she had promised to help out.

It’s not that she has a lot of time on her hands. Lih Ching has her hands full as well. She has her own cat, BB, to look after as well as the two kittens. She is a final year UTAR student. She has her own housekeeping (including cooking) to do and mind you, she is quite houseproud. Her apartment is spick and span; in fact, she may well put many housewives to shame.

No amount of words can express our heartfelt thanks and nothing I say can do justice to her. She is certainly one of those who makes this world a better place. A rare jewel indeed - helping and not expecting returns.

Sigh! This is long overdue.

This is Mr Tan Wooi On, the good samaritan who rescued a mother cat and her 3 kittens (see my blog-October 2007). Not only good in looks (sorry, gals, he’s booked by  Angel) but good at heart too. Recently, he spent close to RM1K on an abandoned dog which was in very bad shape (beaten until it couldn’t walk) but he didn’t have the heart to put down. He even took the trouble to find a good shelter for the dog (it died 3 days later). He and Kane (Angel’s brother-in-law) drove all the way down to Johor with the dog. Apparently, the dog had been abused (I hope the owner will pay hell for it). Anyway, it’s heartening to know that there are still some fine people around.

RESULTS OF THE CAT SHOW HELD FROM 26/1/08 - 27/1/08 AT MID-VALLEY EXHIBITION CENTRE

Our foursome had a good outing at the recent cat show. Tina again did us proud by coming in 1st on the 2nd day. This proves that her previous win in the cat show at MATRADE was no flash in the pan. She must be really good.
