Sigh! Sigh! This is also overdue.
I’ve been so busy always, especially the last few months, that I feel I haven’t done justice to certain people. One of them is the young lady you see here. I’m sure she strikes a familiar figure to those who have been accessing this website. Yes, yes, it’s Lih Ching. Her credentials include being godmother to Tiny Tina, our two-time champion at the last couple of cat shows. The children with her are not hers, but they adore her.
Lih Ching has proven to be a true friend in every sense of the word. When she saw how extremely busy we were with a number of sick cats and stray kittens in December, she and Philip offered to look after two kittens (stray, of course) for us. She carted them to her house. She wanted to pay for their upkeep (food, cat litter, etc.) as well but we couldn’t allow her to do that. So, she slyly put ‘donations’ in our money box for stray animals.
Many times, she came to man the pet shop for us when we were short-staffed. She is still helping out. We offered to pay her, but she declined. She even went to the extent (which no one has done before, except paid maids) of cleaning up the cats’ (we mean cats, yes, many, many cats) poo-poo. She did not complain about smells nor it being dirty. Indeed, she did a more thorough job than we could ever have done. She certainly did it better than the dumb paid maids we used to have. All this for the love of the cats. She even spend time to ’sayang’ some of the cats. Whenever she comes to the shop, she’ll just do whatever she sees need to be done.
Aside from this, she helped out at cat shows. At the last cat show, when we couldn’t pick her up because she overslept (can’t blame her, we were all fagged out), she took a taxi there. We actually told her not to do that, but she did it because she said that she had promised to help out.
It’s not that she has a lot of time on her hands. Lih Ching has her hands full as well. She has her own cat, BB, to look after as well as the two kittens. She is a final year UTAR student. She has her own housekeeping (including cooking) to do and mind you, she is quite houseproud. Her apartment is spick and span; in fact, she may well put many housewives to shame.
No amount of words can express our heartfelt thanks and nothing I say can do justice to her. She is certainly one of those who makes this world a better place. A rare jewel indeed - helping and not expecting returns.
