The idea of setting up a pet shop was first mooted in 2005 when the partners, who are also rescuers, found that it was getting too expensive buying good wholesome pet food off the rack for the animals. With the number of animals increasing, we decided it was more practical to set up our own pet shop to get food and supplements at lower prices to feed the animals. At the same time, we sell the food, supplements and accessories. We also provide boarding services and basic grooming.

How did we derive the name TAILS UNLIMITED? One of the partners suggested TAILS and a student put forth the suggestion that since there seems to be no end to the animals being taken in, why not UNLIMITED. Hence, the name TAILS UNLIMITED was registered with the Registrar of Business and on 2 January 2006 TAILS UNLIMITED was born. The signboard was also designed by a student.

Tails Unlimited is run on different lines. Our aim is animal welfare first before profit. Of course, profit is very important to us. Whatever monetary gains we get is channelled back to the animals. We do not breed or sell animals at our petshop. We rescue, neuter and rehome. We are very selective about people to whom we allow to adopt our animals. They have to pass our very stringent interview and satisfy us that they are willing to provide the best care for them. The reason we have to be fussy is because these animals were strays and people may take the easy way out with them, such as turfing them onto the streets again, should they have problems, be it health, behavioural or the owners find it too expensive to keep them.

We believe that animals are not trade commodities; they should not be traded, sold or given as gifts. The welfare and care of animals should not be compromised and the best care, according to the ability of the owners, should be provided always. Animals should not be bred for profit. Only responsible breeders who truly love and have the welfare of the animal at heart should be allowed to breed. Breeders who are motivated by money alone should not be allowed to breed. We, at Tails Unlimited, hate greedy, mercenary and unscrupulous breeders who exploit animals – use them as money-making machines. We feel extremely strongly that the laws relating to animals should be amended to have stiffer punishments for cruelty and abuse of animals. We will always give our full support towards this end.
If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men.

I care not for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it. — Abraham Lincoln
The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. — Mahatma Gandhi
If a dog will not come to you after having looked you in the face, you should go home and examine your conscience.
